Amra- chilli fry

Amra is an edible fruit found mostly in tropical regions; it belongs to family of species “Spondias Mombin” and also known as Hog Plum.

Ingredientsĺ

  • 10-12 pieces of Amra
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • Half teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seed powder 
  • 2-3 teaspoons of mustard oil
  • Salt per taste

Preparation time

  • 5 minutes

Cooking time

  • 15 minutes

Cooking instructions

  • Cut amra in to 2 equal halves
  • Finely slit the green chillies in the center
  • Finely slice the onion
  • Heat a pat and add the oil to it
  • Once hot, add onion and fry the onions 3-4 minutes
  • Add amra, salt and turmeric
  • Keep frying all ingredients on medium heat
  • Cover the pan for 4-5 mins for the amra to become tender
  • After 5 minutes add green chillies to the pan; continue frying till the green chili become soft and its color starts to change. It takes about 5 minutes for everything to mix and become consistent
  • At the end add mustard powder, mix it with fried amra, green chilies
  • The pan can now be removed from the oven and “amra chili fry” is ready to serve
